The Can Says: "Very
Strong, Special Beer" Rortise
Says: Ahh Gold Label, always found hovering
around Spesh and Super T in the supermarket aisles
but never seen around park benches. Maybe there is
a reason for this? As this barley wine has a ABV
of 9.5% we here at Trampjuice felt that a review
was a must. First impressions were very poor, for
a start the 330ml can hardly shouts
"super" at you and I was most
dissapointed to find that the label was actually
red and not gold. The only redeeming factor was
the 9.5% ABV, but what exactly does it taste like?
Upon
opening a typically neutral smell emanated from
the can disguising any ideas as to what the taste
would be. When poured there was very little head,
which soon disappeared into the nexus of the
surrounding air. The taste was overwhelmingly of
caramel with a hint of nuts. Not your average bar
snack peanut but a more uppermarket nut, possibly
Cashews or Almonds. The finish of the drink is
intensely bitter and this bitterness hides the
9.5% well. However the cans are soon gone as they
are only 330ml.
In
Conclusion: So does Gold Label have the
midas touch? Unfortunately not. If the can was
500ml and if they hadn't reduced the strength to
9.5% and if tramps drank it then the final score
may have been different. Also, if the label was
actually gold then there would have been less
points deducted. But we have to take these things
into account and provide an impartial review and
as such Gold Label gets a mediocre 4/10 |
