First Annual
Trampjuice Awards: The
Trampjuice awards were decided upon as the
industry does not have a recognised award system
with which to help guide consumers as to what to
buy. The awards will be completely impartial and
will be judged by six people - five from the
Trampjuice team and one mystery judge. A
shortlist of five for each category has been drawn up by the following: Fosco, Spooner,
Rortise, Maverick and Marakon. Each of the five
got to nominate one for each of the following
categories: Best
super lager
Best cider
Best value for money
Best supermarket super
Best newcomer
Best can/bottle design
Best street cred After
the shortlist is drawn up the judges will
contemplate and debate each brew and winners will
be announced on August 1st 2004 News:
The winners have now been announced, only half a
year late. Use the links on the right to see who
we decided was there best choice in each category.
Email any thoughts on these to rortise@trampjuice.tk News:
In light of forum posts we now have a "Trampjuice
reader's choice" award. You can nominate your
favoured brew here The
following are different judges choices (more to be
added when they come in) Fosco's
Choices: Best
Super Lager - Kestrel super, bigdavec brought
us a wonderous gift even if was out of date! Best
Cider - almost a dead heat with farmhouse
cider and Frosty Jacks - but it has got to be Frosty
Jacks really as Frosty Jacks rules! Best
Value For Money - Farmhouse cider, no contest
really Best
Supermarket Super - Tesco Super, accept no
substitutes Best
Newcomer - Breaker Super - just for the after
party in Cardiff Best
Can/Bottle Design - Co-op Super Best
Street Cred - The mighty Special Brew, the
brand of street corner wankers and the homeless
everywhere. Truly the winner, what Adidas
tracksuit bottoms are for pikey's, Novas for rude
boys and what tacky gold jewelry is to townie bell
ends across the land! Can any super break the
strangle hold that Special Brew has on the market,
probably not, after all the demographic that
drinks Special Brew are homeless, unemployed
alcoholics.
MarAkOn's
Choices: Best
Super Lager - Carlsberg Special Brew.
It is the sun, the moon and the stars. Wrap
yourself in the delight and let it sparkle and
shine in your hand, covering the land in golden
joy. Best Cider -
There is only one cider, Frosty Jacks.
Biased I may be, biased you may be not, but
everyone knows the result.
Back of the net. Best
Value For Money - Amsterdam
Maximator, including the trip to
France, it is by far the most expensive of the
listed tramp juices, but at 11.6%.
Can YOU put a price on it??? Best
Supermarket Super - Tesco Super, with only
this Supermarket near me I can only be fair. Best
Newcomer - Scorpion Super – no thrills, but many a spills. Best
Can/Bottle Design - Pirate Super. Something old and something new
combine to make this something unique. A great
design encompassing all that is good about super
strengths. Best
Street Cred - Frosty Jacks. If
anyone saw you with a 2 litre bottle walking down
the street your cred would sky rocket more than
holding any mere can in your hand.
The only area which could possibly let this
contender down is it being a favourite for under
age drinkers who are currently spoiling the tramp
scene. Spooner's
Choices: Best
Super Lager - Super T, no contest really.
Although not the original it certainly is the
best. Best
Cider - Clearly is has got to be White
Lightning, nothing else even comes close to its
combination of price, street cred and taste. Best
Value For Money - Frosty Jacks. Cheap and will
make you cheerful. Best
Supermarket Super - Co-Op Super. Looks sturdy
and has an 0800 number on the side. A surefire
winner. Best
Newcomer - Scorpion Super. Unheard of by the
team up until recently it is fast becoming a new
favourite for those in the know. Best
Can/Bottle Design - Pirate Super. Makes me
chuckle everytime I look at it. The guy on it must
be Abu Hamza. Best
Street Cred - White Lightning. You simply just
look cool. Maverick's
Choices: Best
Super Lager - Super T - for
reputation, cost and a cool can. It might taste of
shite but I can put up with it for the short time
until I've had enough not to care. Best
Cider - Being a Northern Lad I prefer my lager
and there isn't exactly much choice up here in
terms of cider. Zeppelin and White Lightning bring
back fond memories of "the park", so
in this two horse race my vote must go to
Zeppelin; for the extra class. Best
Value For Money - Super T on special offer in
Spar. Unless the old Rushkinoff could count?
3 euros for a litre of that stuff must be a
bargain! Best
Supermarket Super - Does Scorpion count as
I've only seen it in Morrisons? Best
Newcomer - Scorpion, a quality find on a recent
trip to Blackpool, I've got a can in the boot of
my car if anyone wants to bid for it? Maybe
a trampjuice competition Rortise? Best
Can/Bottle Design - Pirate Super - Clearly a
lot of thought went into the name and design,
still taste's crap but at least they gave you
something to look at when pissed. Best
Street Cred - Tennents. Enough said. Rortise's
Choices: Best
Super Lager - If you had asked me three
weeks ago I would have said Super T, but it is not
three weeks ago it is now and therefore I am
inclined to nominate Calrsberg Special Brew. The
price is right, it is stocked in most offies and
supermarkets, you can even get it in some pubs!
The gold can is a design classic and there is a
deep and rich history in this brew. Best
Cider - It has to be farmhouse scrumpy,
nothing beats it for taste and for getting
whacked. Best
Value For Money - Controversial, but Super T.
If it wasn't such good value, why would so many
people buy it? Best
Supermarket Super - Spar Strong and Pure,
supporting smaller retailers has to be recognised
somewhere. Best
Newcomer - Lynx Altra. Goat swanned this one
to us and what a joy to behold, a crisp silver can
helped this super to become a closet favourite. Best
Can/Bottle Design - Abu Hamza (AKA Pirate)
super, no contest, really. Best
Street Cred - Super T. A statement of intent
rather than a super. Top notch! |
