The Can Says: "11.6%
Super Strong" Rortise
Says: I was very pleased when a friend brought
back 3 different supers from a beer run to France
after enduring the pain of frostbite on his
extremities. The first impression of the can was
very good to say the least with 500ml and 11.6%
this was bound to be a winner. A quick mental
arithmetic test showed that each can contains a
whopping 5.8 units of alcohol. A beast if there
ever was - but what exactly does this taste like?
This
Dutch beer opened without any hassle from the ring
pull - full credit there then! The smell was quite
sweet, like most supers but it didn't have the
harsh after smell typically associated with super
strength lager. The taste was one of a quality
super to rival Bavaria 8.6. The 11.6% is
misleading as you cannot actually taste the
strength - full credit to the brewers for
obtaining this. As for the can design, it's quite
an "old skool" design which accentuates
its 11.6% credentials it is always good to see
different languages on the can - including arabic!

Conclusion: Amsterdam Maximator is indeed the
holy grail of the super lager world. It took a
quest of great length and injury to obtain such a
worthwhile beast. 11.6% and 500ml cans simply blow
away Tennent's super and Special Brew with
arrogance. The taste is absolutely sublime with no
hints of bananas which some supers sometimes taste
of. The team feel that we should award this brew
10/10 but not our Tramps choice award as its availability
in the UK is lacking. Get down to Calais Tesco and
grab some! 10/10 Maverick
says: A bastard to take a picture of, but a
good brew nonetheless. |
